Washington State is implementing paid family and medical leave starting in 2020. This plan allows individuals to provide care following the birth of a child, a child being placed with a family, or for individuals or their family members facing a serious health condition. Qualifying families can be eligible for 12 weeks of paid leave, up to 16 weeks in extreme cases, earning between $100 and $1000 a week depending on salary. While four other states, California, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and New York, have paid family leave, Washington State’s is among the most generous in the nation.
