A Caregiver’s Calling
Lauren Pace’s journey began with a deep desire to help people and a plan to pursue nursing. Reflecting on her early years as a caregiver, Lauren says, “I wanted to make sure I could start from the bottom and work my way up to ensure that nursing was the right path for me.” She dedicated five years to in-home care, serving a wide range of clients—from children to those in hospice care.
Lauren’s caregiving experiences were profound and personal. “I got to learn so many life stories and tidbits about life,” she shares. “It felt like an honor to be there for people during some of their most vulnerable moments.” One client, in particular, left a lasting impact on her. Bedridden and requiring extensive care, the client became like family to Lauren. “I even ended up nannying for his granddaughters,” she recalls. “I was so ingrained in their lives—it was more than just a job.”
A Shift in Direction
While nursing was her initial goal, Lauren soon realized that the science-heavy path wasn’t the right fit. This realization led her to pivot towards business, where she earned a degree in business marketing. Even though she stepped away from nursing, Lauren never lost her passion for helping others. “I left nursing school feeling a bit lost because I knew I didn’t want to be a nurse, but I still wanted to help people directly or indirectly.”
That’s when she found Family Resource Home Care. As she transitioned into the role of Regional Business Development Manager, Lauren felt like everything had come full circle. “It felt like the perfect fit,” she says. “I’m able to bring all of my experiences to this role. Getting referrals and seeing our team help people is so rewarding. I feel like I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.” Lauren covers the Woodinville and Bellevue area to support the Puget Sound Branches.
Empowering Through Experience
Lauren’s background as a caregiver has proven invaluable in her current role. “I feel fortunate to have real-world experience as a caregiver,” she explains. This experience allows her to connect authentically with families and referral partners. “When I talk to families, I share my experiences as a caregiver. I know how uncomfortable it can be to accept help, but I speak honestly and from the heart.”
Her dual perspective—having been both a caregiver and a family member of a client—gives her a unique ability to build trust. “I think the pairing of my perspective and our materials creates a really solid story,” Lauren notes. This authenticity has helped her earn the trust and respect of those she works with.
Words of Wisdom
Lauren’s journey offers valuable lessons for caregivers. “First and foremost, be genuine and authentic,” she advises. “Treat clients the way you’d want your own grandmother or parent to be treated.” She encourages caregivers not to shy away from challenging clients, as those experiences often lead to the greatest personal and professional growth. “You’re making a world of difference in someone’s day, whether it’s for four hours or twelve hours. They look forward to seeing you, and I never took that for granted.”
For Lauren, caregiving is about more than just providing physical care. “There’s so much that seniors can teach us,” she says. “Sharing stories is healing, and that’s another component of caregiving that’s a blessing.” As she continues her journey at Family Resource Home Care as a Regional Business Development Manager, Lauren remains committed to making a difference—one meaningful connection at a time.
