A Calling Rooted in Compassion
Chelsea’s journey into caregiving began long before she officially entered the field. Growing up, she accompanied her mother, an LPN nurse, to work. Her mother specialized in dementia care, and these early experiences ignited Chelsea’s natural inclination to care for others. “I’ve always been someone who wants to take care of others,” she shares. From working as a dietary aide in nursing homes to pursuing a medical assistant certification, Chelsea’s path was shaped by a deep-seated desire to make a difference.
When her grandmother needed care, Chelsea stepped up, navigating complex programs like DSHS and discovering the nuances of long-term care insurance. It was during this time that she found the Pendleton Branch of Family Resource Home Care, appreciating the flexibility it offered. “I loved the flexibility and the opportunity to take on more clients,” she recalls. This flexibility, combined with her passion for caregiving, set the stage for her next chapter.
Embracing Growth and Leadership
Chelsea’s transition to the Caregiver Manager role was inspired by encouragement from her colleagues Lonnie and Letty. “They saw potential in me,” Chelsea explains, “and it made me start thinking about my five-year plan.” After a year with Family Resource Home Care, she decided to take on the challenge of transitioning into the Caregiver Manager role, recognizing the company’s commitment to growth and opportunity. After a month in the Caregiver Manager role, Chelsea transitioned into the Client Care Supervisor to learn more about business and grow.
“I always look at it as how would I want my loved ones or myself to be taken care of, and how do I transition that into our clients,” Chelsea says. Her dedication to ensuring clients feel valued and safe is a cornerstone of her leadership style. She emphasizes that her door is “a revolving door of safety,” where clients and caregivers alike are more than just numbers—they matter.
Chelsea Supporting Caregivers Through Experience
Having worked as a caregiver herself, Chelsea brings a unique perspective to her leadership. “It’s a way to lead by example,” she explains. She understands the challenges caregivers face and strives to guide them with empathy and professionalism.
“Everyone has bad days,” Chelsea acknowledges, “but it’s about how we present ourselves to others.” She encourages caregivers to check their emotions before entering a client’s home and to remain proactive by thinking of solutions. Her philosophy is rooted in accountability and growth: “We’re not perfect, but owning up to our actions and learning from them makes us better.”
Bridging Understanding Between Clients and Caregivers
Chelsea’s approach to home care emphasizes mutual respect and adaptability. For clients, she reassures them that Family Resource Home Care’s goal is to improve their lives while respecting their routines and preferences. “If they have a particular way of doing things, we adjust and support them,” she says.
For caregivers, Chelsea stresses the importance of respecting the client’s home and wishes. “You’re a guest in their home,” she advises. “Learn their preferences, respect their boundaries, and always ask yourself how you’d want someone to treat your loved ones.” This philosophy fosters trust and ensures a positive experience for both clients and caregivers.
Wisdom for Growth and Connection
Reflecting on her journey, Chelsea highlights the importance of continuous self-improvement. “There’s always room for growth, and the only person who can make that happen is you,” she says. Small acts, like offering a smile, can have a profound impact, transforming someone’s day.
Chelsea’s passion for caregiving and leadership shines through her commitment to making processes easier and more understandable for others. Whether she’s marketing with the Regional Business Development Manager, Mary or matching the right caregiver to a client, Chelsea’s dedication to excellence is unwavering.
“I learn something new every day,” she says with enthusiasm. Her journey is a testament to the power of compassion, growth, and the profound difference that thoughtful caregiving can make in the lives of others.
