Lissette Angel’s path to becoming a Client Care Supervisor at Family Resource Home Care is a story of compassion, growth, and unwavering dedication to helping others. Her journey reflects the profound impact caregiving can have on both clients and caregivers and how taking a leap of faith can lead to incredible opportunities.
A Natural Caregiver at Heart: Lissette
“Helping others has always been my thing,” Lissette shares, reflecting on her early experiences caring for her family. She helped raise her sister, who is 12 years younger and later took care of her mother. These formative years instilled in her a deep sense of responsibility and empathy—qualities that would shape her future in caregiving.
Six to seven years ago, Lissette entered the caregiving field without fully understanding what it entailed. With training and hands-on experience, she quickly discovered her passion for being there for others, especially for clients who didn’t have family to rely on. “I’m a really emotional person,” Lissette admits, “so when you leave someone or they pass, it’s hard. But I’ve always enjoyed being there for people.”
Lissette’s bond with her clients went far beyond professional care. She recalls a private-pay client who passed away within three months of her care. Afterward, she felt compelled to stay and help his wife through her late stages of life. Family Resource Home Care supported her decision to take a step back during this time, demonstrating the value they place on their caregivers’ well-being. “I felt like I had to be there for her,” Lissette explains.
As a bilingual caregiver, Lissette often stepped up to assist when language barriers arose, earning her a reputation as a reliable and compassionate team member. Her branch encouraged her to take on the Client Care Supervisor role, even though she hesitated at first. “I didn’t want to leave my clients behind,” Lissette confesses. But ultimately, she took the leap, trusting that other caregivers would care for her clients as well as she had. “I’m happy I did it,” she says proudly.
From Caregiver to Leader: Supporting Clients and Caregivers
Lissette’s experience as a caregiver gives her a unique perspective in her role as a Client Care Supervisor at the McMinnville Branch of Family Resource Home Care. “Being a caregiver, you notice changes in a client’s condition,” she explains. This ability to observe, listen, and respond allows her to guide both caregivers and clients with understanding and empathy.
Recently, Lissette encountered a situation where a client was being misunderstood. Caregivers initially thought the client was upset, but Lissette’s experience told her otherwise. “I encouraged them to try again because I knew he was just hard of hearing and not upset,” she recalls. Her calm guidance and problem-solving approach made a significant difference, helping both the client and caregivers navigate the situation successfully.
“I feel special when I can offer advice because I’ve lived through it,” Lissette says. Her ability to relate to caregivers and clients alike makes her an invaluable leader in her branch.
Advice for Those New to Home Care
For those considering home care—whether as a caregiver or client—Lissette’s advice is simple: “Just try it. Treat others the way you want to be treated, and see how it goes.” She acknowledges that caregiving isn’t always easy, but the rewards far outweigh the challenges. “It’s family. It’s somebody seeking help and needing help,” she says.
Lissette recalls waking up each day with a sense of purpose, knowing her clients depended on her. “I’d wake up knowing I was going to see my person and accomplish something that day. They needed me,” she shares. While caregiving can be hard work, Lissette believes the bonds formed with clients make it all worthwhile. “Diseases aren’t really the person,” she explains. “Helping others and creating those special bonds is what it’s all about.”
Stepping Into a New Role
Transitioning from caregiving to an office role has been a new experience for Lissette, but one she embraces with curiosity and determination. “I miss caregiving because I’ve never worked behind the scenes before,” she says. “It’s different, but it’s good and interesting to see how everything works.”
Lissette’s journey is a testament to the opportunities that arise when you follow your passion for helping others. Her story inspires caregivers to believe in themselves, take chances, and trust that their skills and experiences can lead to growth in unexpected ways.
As a Client Care Supervisor, Lissette continues to make a difference every day—not just for clients, but for the caregivers she now guides and supports.
